Your direct sales company wants you to grow your team. You may want to want to grow your team. You have tried to grow your team, and to get your downline to sponsor and grow their line, so you can promote within your company. Its just not happening. Here are some reasons that stop a team from growing.

3 Things that Stop a Team from Growing

1. There's no Focus on Recruiting

Have you ever heard “she knows what I sell, if she wants to join me, she would ask me.” That's not how recruiting works, or how business works. If you're not asking your customers, and your team is not asking their customers if they want to join the team, your collective customers will have no idea how to do so.

No focus on recruiting can also mean that you or your team aren't using the right words to the prospects. You're not taking their problems into account, and just saying things that don't match. “I don't have enough time” shouldn't be met with “Think of how much money you'll make!” They'll think “Okay even if I was too make that money, I still don't have the time to start this.” If they don't think you'll listen to them, right from the beginning of their new business, then they'll think you'll never listen to them.

What to do instead: Start with asking people, work the recruiting language into your content. Train your team to do them same. 1 in 5 of your customers you should be offering to join your company. Give your team scripts to use, and how to weave it into their social content, and to use in follow-up communications. If your team is worried about recruiting all of their customers, train them to get new customers.

2. There's no Discipline

The hardest thing about owning your own business is that there is no one telling you what to do each day. You are the person who has to show up each day, make the content, and post the content. So if there's no one telling you what to do each day, it can be very easy to not do those things. Its the same for your team members. No one said that owning your own business was going to be easy.

Your team could stop showing up when times get hard, when the prospects are low, and so are sales. That could stall their growth, as well as your growth. Once you stop showing up, it can continue and snowball into long breaks from your business.

What to do instead: Work on keeping your commitments. If you continue to show up for your team even in the tough times, offering solutions, a shoulder for them to lean on, and being a support system in more then just “why haven't you hit your goals” can help your team keep their discipline. Hold monthly trainings with video, and then texted based training throughout the month. Continue to brainstorm with your team on what's working or what's not. Tell them what's working for you.

Showing up for your business is more then just posting on social media. Follow-up with your customers, keep the meetings or parties that you said you were going to do, write valuable emails or blog posts that can help you and your team reach new people.

3. There's no Confidence Mindset

There's always someone somewhere saying that “direct sales/MLM are so spammy, they don't make any money” or something else negative along the same lines. Sometimes those voices are too loud in our/your teams warm circle. Which makes the consultant afraid to post anything online that anyone can see.

Have you or your team ever pre-judged an ask? You know someone in your community, and they'd be great at this, they just don't know it yet. But yet, you don't ask. You've pre-judged their answer to be no before even asking. There's no confidence in your business opportunity or the value that you know your products or company provides.

What to do instead: There's plenty of ways on Facebook, in particular, to control who sees what. If you're on your personal profile, using friends lists and adding people to the lists that you know will be okay (or have not expressed a negative opinion) to your social warm up posts, or occasional business post. From your page, or a different platform, the block button is your friend. Tell your team and yourself to use the block and mute button, its their platforms, so they control who gets to interact with them.

If there's someone who you've pre-judged their no answer on, reach out once, and ask them. All they can say is no, and once they say no, you know you can move on with your life. You can always check in with them again at a later date.

If your team's not growing, its an easy problem to fix, but it requires focus and discipline from everyone on your team. There is no I in team, and you all can work together to gather new ideas, scripts, and strategies to use while trying to grow your teams.
