5 Secrets to Thriving in Online Direct Sales

1. Build and Nurture your Audience

You're building relationships first and foremost. You want to focus on relationships with your customers and your friends, because those will lead to (friends, and we all need adult friends) you serving them with value and answers to their problems and questions.

This is not a fast process. It takes time to building your know, like and trust factor with your audience. Your value will shine through, helping them trust you. Engaging your audience in the comments of your posts, or on live videos help build those inter-personal relationships.

2. Be Consistent

Consistency is very important in your business online. Consistency means posting on your social platforms as many times as you can handle. You do not have to post everyday, but you do have to show up consistently as much as you can handle.

But consistency also means consistency in your voice. Your voice comes across the same when you're live, in a video, or in a static post. I don't mean the actual sound of your voice, I mean what you talk about, the words you use, the slang you use, and the tone in the voice.

If you use a lot of slang in your day to day speak, then you should be using slang in your static posts. If you don't use slang in your speaking voice, then you shouldn't be using tons of slang in your static posts. If you're going to say you love one thing on one platform, don't go to another platform and say you hate that same thing. Consistency in what you believe and put out on the internet is just as important as how often you show up.

You to be authentic to yourself. Being fake on the internet is something you cannot keep up forever. Especially if you're doing live videos, eventually the mask the is going to drop. A low energy day is fine, but you shouldn't be an entirely different person where your tone is completely different.

3. Provide Value to your Audience

Your audience is following you on your social channels because you're giving them something. You're entertaining, you're providing them with tips, or you're hanging out with your friends. Providing them tips and tricks and demos are a cornerstone to your online direct sales business.

Your tips and tricks should be answering a pain point, a problem either internal or external, that your ideal client has. That is what you build your content on, the problems that your products solve, and the life that your ideal client will have after your product comes into her life.

4. Don't be Pushy or Spammy

You're setting out to make connections, make real recommendations, and to build proper friendships. And the worse thing you could is be overly pushy towards making a sale. Reaching out after weeks with zero related contact can feel gross to your friend, and make them no longer want to be your friend.

Instead, we work on social warm up, making connections outside of your VIP group, and inside your VIP group. Instead of messaging 10 friends right at the end of the month to buy something from you, all month long you start commenting on their posts, start responding to their comments. Do you see them on your live video? You can then extend the value and say “I just want to make sure you don't miss out on <product>, here's the link…” and expand the conversation to link back to the live demo you did and they commented on.

A good 3Ps social content mix helps the ick and the pushy feeling lessen, since you've offered value, and are contacting people who have engaged with your content before.

5. Build Long Term Relationships

I said at the beginning that you should be focusing on building friendships. These long term relationships can be game changing. People can make real connections online that last a lifetime. I'm still connected with many of the people that started back with me all the way back at the beginning of the Suite.

These relationships become your super-fans. They'll follow you every where on the internet, and sign up for all your lead magnets. Your friends are there to support you, and you're there to support them.

Thriving in online direct sales isn't a get rich scheme. It takes work and consistency. But the payoff can last years and you can gain some long lasting friendships out of the deal.
