Lifestyle Content and the 3Ps of Social Media
Hint — it's not about posting business stuff…it's just not. It's not all in fact.
So here's what it's about. It's about posting lifestyle content. We call it the 3 Ps of social content: personality, purposeful, and promotional. So we're gonna talk today, really, about personality content.
Personality content is lifestyle content. It's stuff that helps people get to know you:
- What are you all about?
- Where do you live?
- What makes you laugh?
- Tell me about your family.
- What are you willing to share publicly because it (becomes part of your marketing story).
- But still, what is your lifestyle story?
- What's your vibe?
- Are you funny?
- Are you motivational?
- Are you quirky?
- Are you weird?
- Are you awesome?
- What's your favorite color?
- What's your object?
- What's your — what's your lifestyle about?
- Are you a busy, on-the-go professional?
- Are you a busy, on-the-go mom?
- Are you a stay-at-home mom?
- Where — where do you fit?
- What's your story?
That's lifestyle content. I call it narrating your life.
Now, a lot of people will say. “but Brenda, I'm so boring.” You guys, I work at home. I work all the time, and I never go anywhere. Literally ever — I work at home, I never go anywhere… I am the most boring person there is. If you think leaving the house is what makes you interesting, you are missing the point of narrating your life, okay?
I talk about what I'm wearing, what crazy thing my hair is doing, what I had for lunch. Because part of your lifestyle story is what is all about you that makes you relatable and interesting to somebody else.
So my challenge for you to think about is what happens in your daily life that can be made a little bit funny. That can be made a little bit self-deprecating. That can be made a little bit quirky. That can be made to say “raise your hand if you had SpaghettiOs for lunch today like a 12 year old.”
It's relatable — its quirky, its lifestyle, its narrating your life.
That's really all of our social content personality is what it's all about.
So when you start to think about how you're going to attract people toward you with your marketing plan — again, it's not about what you sell. It's about the brand of who you are, okay? And that's your personality and your vibe and your humor and your story. A lot of this is simply narrating our daily life — that's really all it is.
I don't want you guys to overcomplicate this and say “I have to have this big story to tell” and “I have to be someone who's way more interesting than I am.”
Guess what. Something in your daily life is incredibly relatable to somebody else who is saying, “I wish there was somebody who could kind of connect and relate to what I'm dealing with and going through on a daily basis.”
That's lifestyle content.
Lifestyle content is sort of the easiest one, because it's just narrating your life, that's really all it is. So, if you hangout in the Suite, you start to notice that I talk about my favorite color (Pink, duh) and I talk about my kids, and I talk about what TV I'm watching. Narrating my life. Not very exciting because guess what — I never go anywhere.
So, if you think your life is boring, I'm gonna challenge you to rethink that notion. If you think that you don't have a story to tell — that somebody else who also thinks they are equally boring, you can amplify that voice and make it something quirky, funny, and lifestyle-oriented.
